There are many things in life that come with an unnecessarily complicated series of rules and instructions. Dressing yourself in the morning is one of them. Whilst the gospel on men’s fashion is extensive and ever changing, here are some of the top fashion don’ts.
Rocking a Tie with a Short-sleeved Shirt:
Unless you aspire to look like a used car salesman, or a middle aged fast food chain manager who still wants to be taken seriously, then this is a look you should simply avoid. If you’re going to wear a tie, make sure you do so with a long-sleeved shirt.
Improper Tie Length:
Whilst we’re on the topic of ties, make sure when wearing one that it always ends around the centre of your belt buckle. Too low or high above this perfect balance of tie symmetry, and you’re going to look foolish.
Having Too Many Colours:
Whilst it can feel fun sometimes to dress as a walking talking rainbow, you’re not going to be winning any fashion awards. Limit your ensemble to three shades or colours to keep your look consistent and coordinated. This doesn’t mean going the other extreme and wearing a single block colour, instead you should find yourself a colour wheel online and see what works together.
Becoming an Unofficial Brand Ambassador:
I’m sure Adidas really appreciates your valiant efforts to spread their brand awareness, but unless they’re paying you to wear their logo splashed all over your outfit, you just look like a walking billboard advertisement.
Tucking in your T-shirt:
Only acceptable for polos and shirts, tucking in should not be applied to tees. They’re essentially the embodiment of casual and you are defiling the very meaning of its existence by stuffing it into your beltline.
